Nine Stories

Author: JD Salinger

Project Type: Speculative

Details:

As the title indicates, there are "Nine Stories" contained within the book. I wanted the cover to depict the collection of nine as a whole, while also representing the individuality of each story in its own right. To this end, I chose what I deemed to be the most salient object featured in each story, then aligned them in rows of three to represent the whole. Anyone who has read the book will hopefully be able to look at the illustrations on the cover and be able to determine which image corresponds with which story.

For the style of the illustrations, I chose to draw each object in a very simple, stamp-like style. This gives the sense of the objects as symbols or icons that are essentially representative of something else.
